party2-250.jpgPopular drag king Sexy Galexy will be doing a one-off show at Moist this month. She chats with CHERRIE.

You’ve been in the UK for around 2 years now I believe – what have you been doing?

Well a long break from drag was something I definitely needed to do. When I missed the glamour of it all (1 year later), I put the face back on. The drag community here in London isn’t as big as Sydney. So what more could I ask for than having the opportunity to show London what drag and performance is all about! I have a blank canvas, and I am absolutely loving the challenge.

Fellow Australian, Tara Chambers (Managing Director) and I (Creative Director) have just launched our own Production and Events company, 11eleven Productions Ltd. Our shows and productions have proven to be one of the most amazing attractions and performances over London.

Our most recent production was the biggest performance of the night for the UK’s Lesbian top model contest: Role Model Final 2008 at the Café de Paris on Sunday May 11, an event sponsored by G3 Magazine, Candy Bar, Toni & Guy, Gaydar Girls, Religion Clothing, Cuervo Tequila, Arona Sarwar & Co. Solicitors, Sugar Babes and Women’s Travel Desk.

As one of the main attractions for the evening’s series of acts, our range of performers and I had a unique and vibrant 20-minute production on stage and catwalk. The Café de Paris is a prominent venue in London’s west end, with a luxurious, theatrical interior décor and an 800-person capacity. This night has been publicised throughout the UK in all the gay press and we had an incredible response from our audience as the best show of the night.

How are you finding it there? What’s the best and worst things about London?

I'm enjoying my time here, it's a challenge which I love. London is a beautiful city, full of opportunity and an abundance of variety. It just costs an incredible amount to live.

What’s the scene like for ‘not so straight’ chicks?

There is a variety of events happening all over the place depending on what you’re into.

How is it different to the Sydney scene?

There isn’t an emphasis on entertainment, mostly DJs. Music isn’t at the same standard. Sveta rocks and I miss the tunes and someone that can mix it up like magic!

The amount of girls I meet in sydney that are London girls is incredible – sometimes it is like being home.

Without giving too much away, can you give us some teasers as to the show you’ll be doing at Moist in June?

Well girls, wear your sunglasses because I haven’t seen the sun for two years, my skin in so white I don’t need a light on at night!

Sexy Galexy at Moist: Friday 27 June at Arq, Flinders St, Taylor Square, Darlinghurst. Visit www.myspace.com/4thechicsat_arqsydney for more.
