Chris Milne tells us about the new ‘Live @ The Flinders’ night.scoop250.jpg

Live @ The Flinders is a live band/artist night showcasing some of Sydney’s great talent. I realised I knew quite a few performers myself – two of whom actually work at The Flinders!

I decided to put it out there to see if there was any local talent that wanted to showcase and host a night themselves as there’s no regular live or gig night on the queer scene at the moment, just the obvious live venues which are predominately straight. I got such a positive response I decided to hold a night once a week just for this, on Wednesdays.

It covers all sorts of music styles and is a night where what you see is what you get. Each week will have a different flavour therefore it’s worth popping back each week to see who’s on. The artists can charge on the door for themselves if they want to and we give them 10% of the bar as a thank you and an incentive to get a larger crowd for themselves.

We are also going to host a once-a-month ‘Soul Night’ as a style of music which is going to be hosted by Charmaine Bingwa (pictured). Each month she will organise different bands that will fit under the ‘Soul’ banner.

Weekends can get so busy with other club nights, birthdays and commitments so that’s why we picked a midweek night. It’s not a late night and therefore very accessible. I also think it is very important to support local artists, both gay and straight.

We are not looking for any particular styles or type of music as we don’t want to alienate anyone. For more information or expressions of interest to perform on this night please email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or call Katie or Chris on 9356 3622.
