Come and hear DJ Sveta play Russian music for the very first
time as The Studio at Sydney Opera House kicks out the seats for two nights of DJs, live music and
performance artists to celebrate Australia’s flourishing Russian
culture scene.
“I’m very honoured as I’ll be DJing in between two of my
favourite Eastern European Australian bands, 2007 ARIA Award winning Zulya
& the Children of the Underground and VulgarGrad,” she tells CHERRIE.
While mainstream Russian music is
predominantly cheesy pop, Sveta will be offering up “independent and quirky
music” that fits in between the extremely commercial and traditional divides. “I’ve
just located some Russian surf style guitar rock versions of ‘Tainted Love’ and so on! I think that
I’ll probably be playing a mix of traditional gypsy style music, mixed with a
few dance tracks, and of course, Tatu.”
