As music listeners, we gather our initial opinions of a song in the first seven seconds. Go to myspace.com/kateduffy and listen to the song ‘Soundtrack to your life’, listen to your seven seconds, and your ears and heart will begging for more. If you are interested in indie folk, rock or pop, or even if you’re not, Kate Duffy is worth a listen.
The Sydney singer songwriter is relatively unknown here, after just returning from overseas. She began songwriting in her late teens and began gigging around Newtown and Surry Hills in Sydney. Kate is just back from the indie music scene in Vancouver, where she recorded her debut album Precious Spaces, which received radio airplay around Vancouver. With thought-provoking lyrics, a soft and endearing voice, clever guitar and beautiful piano, I understand what Kate means when she says that “hearing the emotions we’re feeling through song is powerful and comforting”.
Still in the early stages of her career, Kate has just released Precious Spaces (available at Fish Records). She’s a talented musician and after a visit to her Myspace site, I am sure Sydneysiders will be keen to hear her live. I know where I’ll be on 10 July: at The Gaelic Club in Surry Hills before her music explodes onto Australian airwaves.
